GO SEE: CRANBROOK ART MUSEUM & THE DETROIT BLUESTOCKINGS CREW SALON HOSTED BY SAMANTHA BANKS SCHEFMAN & AUGUSTA MORRISON AT THE PLAYGROUND

The Detroit Bluestockings Crew along with Cranbrook Art Museum will be hosted by Samantha Banks Schefman, Co-Founder & Co-Director of Playground Detroit with guest Augusta Rose Morrison, Education Associate (MOCAD), musician, and member of the Seraphine Collective on February 18th. This unique evening of conversation and performance will focus on Feminism’s place in the art world; and the community-friendly alternative spaces in Detroit where Feminist creators activate their voices.

Augusta Rose, joined by musicians Alex Koi and Rachel McIntosh, has created a performance art piece specific to this event that focuses on feminism and the public reactions to sound, word play, repetition, and participation. The audience will be given several prompts to respond from which the information will be used to create an original piece that reflects the conversational ideas.

The Detroit Bluestockings Crew, a collective created for the Cranbrook Salon exhibition, will host a series of salons within the exhibition space and in locations throughout the city of Detroit. The collective is inspired by 18th Century Blue Stocking Society in London, a group of accomplished women who rejected their exclusion from British society’s intellectual pursuits. Each member will host a salon with an invited guest speaker/performer in the museum or in Detroit that enlivens culture, conversation and the intellectual community.
