CAN YOU FEEL “DLECTRICITY” IN DETROIT?

CAN YOU FEEL “DLECTRICITY” IN DETROIT?

Once again Detroit is proving its international artistic relevance with the addition of a new exciting visual art and lighting festival set for Fall 2012.

DLECTRICITY will bring artists, lighting designers, and architects to Woodward in Midtown to create installations of light, sound, performance and video projection.” -VIA  The HuffingtonPost

The festival is slated for October 5th and 6th 2012, which means that it will also (the project’s mindful and cheeky nod to the work) coincide with The LUMINALE Detroit Light Festival which runs from September 23rd through November 23rd, 2012.    Within the past year, the idea of ‘bringing light’ to the city has become a very prevelant notion.  There have been a series of different light based art exhibits in Detroit, including the Detroit Institute of Art’s   “Moonbeams for Motown”, The Kunsthalle Detroit’s (The Museum of Multimedia and Light-based Art)  “Light Fiction”, and Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit’s (affectionately known as MOCAD) Joshua White and Gary Panters Light Show.

DLECTRICITY is currently holding an artist call for entry for 25 funded visual artists.  The submission cut-off is set for May 28th, 2012. According to their official website,

We are looking for contemporary art projects that will transform the Woodward Corridor into a spectacular nighttime environment of temporary site-specific public art.” -VIA DLECRTICITY
